New Laws Enacted by the SC General Assembly in 2023
Act 72, Trafficking in Fentanyl, creates this new felony offense in the criminal code and establishes a mandatory minimum sentence.
Act 83, Bond Reform, punishes offenders who commit another violent crime while out on bond with additional jail time and financial penalties.
Act 75, provides Death Benefits for First Responders who are killed in the line of duty, including for some volunteer first responders.
Act 55, expands the state’s DUI Ignition Interlock Program by increasing the number of DUI offenders required to install an ignition lock on their first conviction.
Act 13, “The Earn and Learn Act of 2023,” allows applicants to receive a professional license after an approved apprenticeship and prohibits the denial of a professional license solely for an unrelated criminal offense on a person’s record.
